COMPARISON OF THREE LAB REPORTS

The most important part of every lab report is the second section, just after the abstract: it is the introduction. The introduction of our lab report is a section where we have the opportunity to introduce to the reader important details of what we will be talking about.

In this paper, I will discuss the comparison of a main part of 3 lab reports:

Here is a comparison of 3 lab reports found on the net:

  • Genetic barcoding of green Algae Ulva sp. For algal inventory of Narragansett bay
  • Temperature and pressure measurements of an ideal Gas that is heated in a closed container
  • Determination of alcohol content of whiskey

The first similarity I notice on these three lab reports is that they all three have an introduction as the second part of the report.

The second similarity is that, in the first paragraph of each introduction, it starts with a broad introduction to the topic including a definition of key words of each subject.

The third similarity is that the introduction on these lab reports, the subject is narrowed to discuss about why the study is important, how it works

The fourth similar part I notice in the introduction is that they all include a literature review of what is already know about the subject of the report

The last similarity is that in the last paragraph of each lab report, there is a statement about the purpose of the study and the question we were trying to answer.

What I noticed studying the similarities between these lab reports is that their introductions differ from one another. An introduction of a report on physics has a different structure from the one’s on chemistry or biology. Nevertheless they follow more all less the same points we discussed so far.
